CONNECT AND SERVE
BOOK CLUB
The Connection UMC Book Club meets the second Monday of each month at 1pm, in the Gathering Room (blue), also known as the McDonough Room.
It is the room on the right, as you enter the church.
We read fiction books selected by the group, concerning social issues. The group plans 5 books at a time. Our leaders are different ones, in the group, that volunteer.
Join us, as we discuss, learn and share.
Caring Partners
Each month a group of Connection UMC family ministers to our homebound. The ministry began several years ago then added the delivery of gift bags during COVID. Each bag is filled with small snacks, puzzles and other items that help them connect to our Lord and to us. As our coordinator has said, "An effort by all, to pass on love". We thank all of you for reaching out to our homebound.
CHILDREN'S STORY TIME
The first Sunday of each month, children of any age are invited to a story time in the children's library before worship service from 8:55 a.m. - 9:10 a.m.
Ms. Christy will meet you there.
CHOIR
The choir, under the direction of our talented Director of Music, David Greer, rehearses every Tuesday at 6:30pm in the choir room. All are welcome to join!
DONATION CENTER
At Connection UMC we have some food drives, school assitance items (ex. jeans for the students) and other drives as needed. We have a center for these collections. The items are either delivered by our congregation or they picked up by the group in need.
HICKMAN ELEMENTARY
We have an on-going partnership with Hickman Elementary, a school less than a mile from our campus. We check-in frequently about any needs they might have and we strive to share our resources well.
In the past, we have provided teachers and staff with a yearly breakfast, a yearly luncheon, held supply drives, and collected snack bags for children in need.
Look for opportunities to engage in this partnership on our social media pages, in our weekly newsletter or on our website's event page (button below)!
LAUNCH PAD
All youth deserve a street-free sleep.
Launch Pad is a 'street free sleep' initiative, fueled by a collective of concerned citizens within the LGBTQ and allied community, which strives to provide open and affirming safer sleeping shelters for homeless youth in Davidson County.
We are a partner with Launch Pad by providing volunteers, hosting youth in the winter, and supporting financially.
McGavock High School - snacks
McGavock High School is located in our community. The school has several students in need.
Some of the students at McGavock arrive at school hungry. The school provides breakfast and lunch for free, but they like to provide some snacks for the students to have between classes or in the afternoon as they start to get hungry again.
There is a basket set-up in our Donation Center for your snack contributions. Look for the McGavock logo.
They have specifically asked for the following:
Pop-Tarts
Granola Bars
Chips
Cheese and/or Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches
Packages of Cookies
St. Philip's Pantry
Connection UMC participates as volunteers, once a month at St. Philip' Pantry. It is located in the Saint Phillip's Episcopal Church at 85 Fairway Drive in Donelson.
We have partnered with St. Philip’s for several years. We volunteer and donate foods for the pantry. It is open Monday morning and Thursday afternoon. They manage and store the food, coordinate volunteers and gather donations from other sources.
Also, in partnership with St. Philip's and other community churches/groups, we host an annual Thanksgiving Food Assistance Event in our parking lot for people in our community who are struggling with food insecurity. Traditionally, it is the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Would you like to donate nonperishable items to St. Philip's pantry? We have a basket in our Donation Center for this purpose. Our monthly volunteers will deliver it to Second Harvest. Another way to donate is to place donations in the Second Harvest donation barrel at the Kroger on McGavock Pike. St. Philip's pick up those donations.
Thank you to those who have donated food and volunteered to serve those with food insecurities.
